Types of Legal Papers You Might Need Served by a Private Process Server
You may think that you will never need a private process server, but there are actually several situations in which you might need to serve someone with legal papers. Being prepared and knowing when you need a private process server is important, especially if you tend to handle these matters on your own without an attorney. Here are some of the types of legal papers you might need served when working on a case on your own.
Evictions
If you are a landlord with only a few properties, you might not have an attorney or property management company to handle your evictions for you. In Florida, initial three-day and seven-day eviction notices can be posted to the door by the landlord without a process server. However, if they do not remedy the lease violation or leave the property, you will have to file with the courts to have them removed. The court notice must be served by a private process server. Verify Credentials
Before hiring a private process server, you need to verify their credentials. Make sure that they are a registered and certified process server with the county and state of Florida. Why Are Process Servers Important?
Service of process might seem like a hassle, but private process servers have a very important role to play in the American justice system. You see, everyone in the country, businesses and individuals alike, have a right to due process. Part of that right is to be notified that a court case concerning you has been filed. Private process servers then become an important part of the court system.
Notification of a Hearing
Most court papers that are served are a notification of a hearing. This includes papers for divorces, small claims court, and larger lawsuits. The papers are not a requirement to appear in court, although if the individual does not appear the plaintiff or person who filed usually gets what they are asking for from the courts. This notification is important because individuals and businesses have a right to know when they are involved in a court case. Continue reading
Three Signs of a Trustworthy Process Server
Your process server is an important party to your court case. You need to know that you can trust your process server to deliver court papers as required by law, successfully and accurately. Here are three signs that you are working with a trustworthy process server.
Success Rate
It is unreasonable to expect a process server to have a 100% success rate. After all, sometimes people move out of state without a forwarding address or are otherwise unable to be found. It does happen. Your private process server should have a success rate that, while not perfect, is high. This shows that they are honest about their serves and that they are successful in most cases. Compliance Questions to Ask Your Process Server
A good process server will make sure that your papers are delivered according to law and regulations. However, there are a lot of process servers out there that engage in gutter serves and other illegal activity. If you are ever unsure about your process server and the quality of service, ask them these three questions.
Who Did You Deliver the Papers To?
In most cases, papers need to be served directly to the individual listed on the papers. In some cases, papers can be served and left with another adult or responsible party. It is important that you know who received the papers and whether or not that was a legal representative of the individual. Continue reading

3 Ways to Get the Most Out of Your Process Server
When you need to get papers served, there are a lot of things to consider. Choosing the right process server is important, but how you work with your process server can also make a difference in the speed and accuracy of service. Here are three ways that you can get the most out of your experience with a process server.
Provide as Much Information as Possible
It is important to provide the process server with as much information as possible. If you know the addresses of the individual’s residence and place of employment, you should provide these to the process server. You should also let the process server know if there are specific times that the individual can be found at home or work. This takes a lot of the legwork out of the job for the process server and gets your papers served faster.
Be Patient
Sometimes, serving papers takes time. If you don’t know when or where the individual being served can be found, the process server has to do some detective work to find the individual and get them served. You and your process server will be much happier and less stressed if you give them time to do their job. While checking in periodically is acceptable, constantly contacting your process server to see if service has been executed yet can take away from their time and yours. Continue reading
